Leasing

The Leasing Department of the Real Estate Office adminsters and manages contracts for the use of space at the University of Minnesota.  We also assist University departments in their search for, and use of property off-campus.  This includes:

  • Land
  • Buildings
  • Airspace
  • Storage/Warehouse space
  • Permits to non-University users for:
    • Utilities
    • Access
    • Construction staging
    • other ongoing construction activities followed by the continued use of University real estate for the facility constructed
  • PUFs (Permanent University Fund Lands)
  • Oil and Gas Leases

Once a lease is signed, our office provides the following services to University Departments:

  • Distribution of the fully-executed lease (to Planning and User Department, etc.);
  • Deposit of rents and other payments related to the lease;
  • Modification of lease terms (changes in premises leased, rent, etc., all done by written amendment);
  • Day-to-day questions, interpretations, and problem solving;
  • Notification for the exercise options and other official notifications to tenant;
  • and addition of new leases and amendments to computer database and keeping database current and accurate.
